Since 1995, water companies across England have invested many millions of pounds in projects to protect and improve our rivers, lakes and wetlands. Now, the Environment Agency are seeking your views on how future money should be spent.

Utilising funds arising from customer’s water bills, the Water Industry Natural Environment Programme (WINEP) includes actions driven by environmental legislation and also voluntary initiatives developed in partnership with local stakeholders.

The Colne Catchment Action Network (ColneCAN) brings together partners with vital local knowledge to help develop projects that tackle specific issues on the River Colne and its tributaries. However, long-term threats from pollution, over-abstraction, population growth and climate change mean that novel approaches to enhancing the water environment continue to be required to increase the effectiveness of water company investments.
